來自Windows Live Messenger的團隊博客的消息，早在去年,Windows Live Messenger 8.5就已經發布了正式版，許多用戶也已經升級。但到今天為止，微軟才正式結束了測試進程，并將8.5版本放入get.live.com公開下載，而測試版用戶也會收到推送的最終版本升級通知。

值得注意的是，Windows Live Messenger 8.5更新將不支持64位Windows XP和Windows Server 2003，在這兩個系統上運行的測試版也不會有推送更新，微軟開發團隊建議在這兩個系統上卸載8.5版本，回到8.1。
