OpenOffice原是Sun公司的一套商業(yè)級Office軟件：StarOffice，經(jīng)過Sun公司公開程序碼之后，正式命名為OpenOffice發(fā)展計劃，并由許許多多熱心于自由軟件的人士共同來維持。讓大家能在MS OFFICE之外，還能有免費(fèi)的Office可以使用。OpenOffice是個整合性的軟件，里面包含了許許多多的工具，其功能絕對不比微軟的MS Office還差，不但可以有Word一樣的字處理，制作簡單的圖形，更有功能強(qiáng)大的圖表功能，也能編寫網(wǎng)頁，還可以做出MS Office中很難處理的數(shù)學(xué)符號等等，支持了XML、微軟的doc、Excel、ppt文件等格式。

OpenOffice.org 是一套跨平臺的辦公室軟體套件，能在 Windows、Linux、MacOS X (X11)、和 Solaris 等作業(yè)系統(tǒng)上執(zhí)行。它與各個主要的辦公室軟體套件相容。OpenOffice.org 是自由軟體，任何人都可以免費(fèi)下載、使用、及散布它。下列是 OpenOffice.org 的主要元件：
